The market for consulting services in the dental laboratory industry is expanding, with all labs considering how to or are currently striving to comply with the regulations and requirements established by the FDA to maintain a minimum standard of quality assurance and demonstrate the ability to track components used in dental understructures. IMS, with its experience in auditing and laboratory practices, has developed a unique program called the International Dental Laboratory System (IDLS) that fully meets the needs of the thousands of dental labs across the country to be compliant to these FDA requirements, at an exceptionally low cost.
This program is being explored by the industry associations and publications as an effective solution to the FDA's intentions by providing an acceptable resolution that is considerate of the small lab restrictions as well as large laboratory organization logistics, and provides a catalyst for inter-industry development.
Lab Management Today has interviewed Mr. Carter D. Thompkins, Vice President of Client Operations for both the April and June/July issues, each time seeking to understand the implications and expectations of the FDA, with focus on understanding the benefits of QMS implementation. These discussions, along with the encroachment of FDA monitoring can only benefit the industry by instituting levels of quality assurance that may or may not already exist, and as well provide laboratory owners with solid operational data, which will greatly improve the effectiveness of their internal processes, as well as assist factually in their developmental business decisions. In the end, with minimal cost outlay dental laboratories have the opportunity to ensure their long-term profitability and growth.
