Integrated Management Systems

 

We chose to implement ISO 9001 using the IMS system with Carter Thompkins.  Over the years, working with Carter has made having a Quality Management System in place at Burbank Dental Laboratory, ATC- (Advanced Technology Center) and our MCZIR- (Milling Center Zirconia) extremely valuable.

 

Our present growth is the result of our dedication to the IMS system.  We started everything in 2005 when Burbank Dental Laboratory was one lab with 55+ employees, and today, in 2014, we have grown to 3 facilities - one of which is a Training Center - and over 200 employees. Through the IMS system we have increased our productivity and nearly eliminated Remakes due to regular Management Review meetings where we set our Quality Objectives to ensure that the whole company from owner to receptionist is on an equal level of awareness about our Quality Management System.  As a company, we went from over 5.5% loss of revenue on Remakes to below 3.75% presently, resulting in significantly less waste of material with records earnings in the last two months.

 

Lastly, we maintain much closer contact with our Dentist accounts through our Doctor Evaluation reports that generate Customer complaints.  These are reviewed and categorized by myself, the MR, to create improvements using Non Conformance Reports and Corrective Actions.

 

Believe me, I have been a Navy trained CDT since 1980 and in the Prosthetic field for over 40+ years, and until our lab brought in Carter with the IMS system, we did not have a true Quality Management system in place.  And now, when I have a third party audit, it's nice to have Carter present as a mentor and consultant. We want to keep him forever.

We chose Integrated Management Systems (IMS), above all other vendors, to ensure our compliance with the FDA regulations that govern our industry. IMS did a thorough analysis of the regulations and presented me with all of the compliance options that were available at that time. We elected to use the ISO Quality Management System for our company and tasked IMS with the complete training and implementation. IMS did a great job of explaining what the project would consist of with regard to the commitment of our people and appropriation of our resources as well as developed a timeline. When we first contacted IMS, Carter Thompkins visited our facility, to determine how IMS could assist us in our transition. It was immediately obvious that Carter had both the professional credentials and the experience to successfully guide us through this transition. Initially, IMS quickly revised and rewrote both our Quality Manual and Procedure Manual, provided a to do list of the items that needed completion, and next trained our internal auditors. As testimony, after completing the surveillance audit, the external auditor even stated that he was impressed by our progress toward the transition to the new standard. I highly recommend IMS and the services they can provide. They delivered a professional product in a timely and thorough manner. Mr. Thompkins was very knowledgeable on the subject matter, and his delivery of the material was superb. He tailored his training to our specific environment and pointed out to us many improvement opportunities.

With input from the company, Mr. Thompkins wrote our Quality Manual, and Quality Procedure Manual. He prepared some forms and graphs for the company, and provided quality instruction to a group of employees on the new ISO system. Mr. Thompkins also consulted with us during our first internal audit on the procedures and expectations of external auditors. When not on site, he was accessible to answer questions and provide advice. Overall the services provided were good, and we would continue to use IMS.
